John (João) Ferreira de Almeida began his translation of the Portuguese Bible in 1644. The complete story is captivating, as it shows a man dedicated to Christ and guided by the Spirit to produce a wonderful and trustworthy translation of the Bible. Due to various groups taking his original work and inserting critical text material (which often includes deletions), Bro. Tom Gilmer began the Trinitarian Bible Society of Brazil to reclaim Ferreira's original work.
Recently, the Portuguese-speaking countries agreed upon a new orthography. This moved the Trinitarian to update the translation. Interestingly, this updated edition is exactly 400 years after the 1611 KJV. Because of this, the inauguration of the new edition was celebrated alongside the KJV. The men present received a history lesson, so to speak, over both the KJV and the ACF.
Dr. Paul Rowland was the keynote speaker. Tom Gilmer and his son, Harold, also spoke.
John with Paul Rowland of the Trinitarian Bible Society in England
There were about 200 people present, mostly Brazilian pastors, participating in the time of thanksgiving, giving their support to the efforts of the Trinitarian Bible Society. It was such a joy to be in attendance at an important part of history in the Portuguese language. I was personally blessed to know that we, in Brazil, already have a solid translation of Scripture in our language of ministry, and we can advance from here, to reach other people groups, as missionaries are sent from Brazil around the world.
At the end they gave everyone a copy of the new 2011 edition of the ACF and also a commemorative edition of the KJV.
Please pray that God raises up churches who not only support this solid translation of the Bible, but that they read it, study it, trust it, love it and obey it.
-- John

Current Weather Conditions
Curious about our weather in Brazil? The seasons are reversed from the Northern Hemisphere and generally fall into two categories, wet and dry. We are currently in São Paulo where the temperature can get quite cold considering the average home has no heater. Up north, however, in Porto Velho (where we plan to head), the temperature gets very hot. The above animation shows current weather conditions in both cities. If you want to watch a short weather video in Portuguese for either city, simply click on the words above that read "Assista a previsão."
